Club Friday Forum FAQs
- Q: What are Friday Forums?
A: Friday Forums are monthly enrichment dances held on the first Friday of each month. The dance is for 6th-8th graders who live in or attend school in Whittier.
- Q: How do I know my child is safe at these dances?
A: The SKILLS Foundation works collaboratively with the Whittier Police Department and offficers are in attendance at each of our dances along with cadets, and our staff providing supervision and safety.
- Q: Where are the Friday Forums held?
A: Friday Forums are held in the gymnasium of the Whittier Community Center located at 7630 Washington Ave., Whittier, CA, 90602 .
- Q: What are the hours of the dance?
A: Friday Forums are held between 7:00-10:00 p.m. Admission is on a first come, first serve basis. Only the first 400 students will be allowed in.
- Q: What is the admission fee to attend the dance?
A: Admission is $3.00 per student.
- Q: Do students need to bring anything with them?
A: Yes, students must show a school I.D. accompanied by a signed permission slip in order to enter the dance. There is also a snack bar so students are encouraged to bring extra money if they would like to purchase concessions.
- Q: What if I don’t have a student I.D.?
A:We are very strict on students having their school I.D.’s upon entrance, however, in the event that a student has lost and/or does not have their student I.D. we may make an exception and accept another form of identification with their photo and information such as an identification card accompanied with a report card/progress report verifying that they attend a Junior High School in Whittier. The SKILLS Foundation uses these dances as a medium to promote positive and healthy social interaction, because of this, we ask for identification to ensure all in attendance are age appropriate for this event.
- Q: Where can I pick-up a permission slip?
A: Permission slips can be picked up at the Whittier Community Center or downloaded from our website at www.skillsfoundaton.org.
- Q: Where do I drop off my child?
A: Students may be dropped off in front of the Community Center. We begin administering wristbands at 5:40 p.m.
- Q: How do I know if my child will be allowed in the dance?
A: Staff will be checking for School I.D., signed permission slip, and appropriate dress, if child meets all requirements and are within the first 400 students, they will be given a wristband and allowed entrance.
- Q: Where do I pick up my child?
A: Parents/guardians must pick-up their children in person inside the gymnasium.
- Q: Why can’t I wait in the car and have my child come out to me?
A: We ask that parents/guardians get off the car and pick up their child in person for safety purposes. With the high number of student attendance, it would be impossible for staff members to keep track of every child if they were allowed to all leave at the same time. We want to be sure an appropriate adult is picking them up and that students are not loitering the premises after dance hours. Moreover, students will wait in the gym where they can be supervised and we can ensure their safety.
13. Q: Is there a dress code?
A: Yes. There is a dress code and it will be enforced. Friday Forums follow the Whittier School districts’ standard dress code. If a student is in violation of the dress code they will need to call a parent to bring a change of clothes, and will not be allowed admission until they are in compliance. Please refer to the Friday Forum Rules and Guidelines sheet for more details. |
